Introduction about Foreign Fuel Cell City Bus Projects
In all over the world, nowadays, the fuel cell vehicle is also in the research moment, and the main demonstration and working are still finished in the fuel cell buses. There are more than 10 projects that are exploitive and unfurling, and we will introduce some projects which are paid wide attention:
Chicago-Vancouver_Ballard Project
In 1993, the ballad motivity system company manufactured the first proton exchange membrane fuel cell bus, and this bus was unfurl running in L.A. aerodrome, which was 9.7m long, 92Kw power and could hold 20 people. After that, the ballad motivity system company and the Chicago bus office in America manufactured three 12 meters’ long fuel cell buses together. These buses first went through 1500 km no passenger running examination. The entire system capability, safety and durability were tested out and the drivers were trained. This project was requested that there were 20 buses trying on the running examination in three places in California, the area from San Francisco to Sacramento, the area of Los Angeles and the area of Santa Clara Valley, and it was answered for by the local companies.
The first fuel cell bus(12m) in the project had been taken to Sun line Company to test in Sep. 2000, which was equipped the proton exchange membrane fuel cell MK700 of Ballord, the fuel cell engine of Xcellsis and the electric drive system of Ecostar, 205kW power and can hold 48 passengers. It was improved on the fuel cell bus which was running in the area of Chicago to Vancouver, and its weight was reduced. There is an equipment used natural gas to produce hydrogen besides equipment used electrolytic water to produce hydrogen. After running 865 hours, 23840 km, the bus was stopped running, disjointed and detected. In Dec. 2001, the fuel cell bus (12m), developed by Georgetown University in America, and had been unfurled and run in the area of Sacramento. This bus adopted the PEM fuel cell of Ballord whose total power was 100 kW, the AC electrical engine driving system of Nessidmark, the vehicle energy management system which was developed by SteveAlan Company and Hamond Company and the mixed driving system used plumbum acerbity. The hydrogen was provided by carbinol. The bus had 40 seats, can reach the speed of 105km/h, and its accelerated time was 14.5s. It can run a length of 560km when put fuel into. The project of Cal. Fuel cell has already ordered a bunch of new era fuel cell buses equipped MIC902 fuel cell from Ballord, and now the buses have been devoted to run.
Europe Fuel Cell Bus Projece
Because of the sustentation of EU, the two projects in Europe: CUTE and ECTS are joining a sweeping fuel cell bus unfurling plan, and by 2003, there will be 30 fuel cell buses in 10 cities of 8 countries, which are in different circumstances in Europe.
The fuel cell bus will be made by EVOBUS of Benz. It was based on Citaro of Benz low floor board, and it have three doors, 12m long, can hold 70 passengers and is equipped MK902 fuel cell of Ballord, over 200kW power. The compress hydrogen bottles of 350 bar is on the top of the bus. The electrical driving system and the fuel cell are installed at the back of the bus. The bus can reach the speed of 80km/h, and run a distance of 200-250km when put fuel into. The manners of producing hydrogen are different because of different places, and they should been tested.
